| It has become clear that there are two distinct modes in which I operate in this work and, therefore, two services offered. One is about essentially creating art; about getting "in the zone" and having something beyond the personal "me" come through. So far, this has often come in collaboration with one who commissions me, someone who can offer sufficient latitude to allow the creative process to manifest. This has been most fortunate and rewarding. Other ways this amateur mode can happen is through inspiration that germinates within, apparently without any outside influence, or quite literally, inspiration from a piece of wood that seemingly dictates the design. As I've mentioned, such a mode of operating can be magical as it involves no sense of time and so in the absence of past or future there is literally only this moment and therefore the feeling of absolute contentment. It's the sensing of such a feeling that confirms the "art" mode is happening and the assurance of results that are worthy of the slogan Timeless Grace…Priceless value. |

| When a design is both "classic" (complete, timeless, universally appealing) and very functional it becomes worthy of production and it is the production of a growing number of designs that I also offer as a service. I make the distinction here because production, which usually involves the making of multiples like seating, requires a different mode of operating, one that is more structured and time based, more professional. With production one knows what they are doing; in art mode one discovers what they are doing as it happens. While there is not the profound depth of contentment as in amateur mode, I find production a process I am particularly well suited to due to my economic-minded /Scottish conditioning. With production, the designs had an inspired beginning and each item is enjoyably and mindfully crafted to last generations. |
